Expanding the Spectrum of Triggers in Aspirin‑Exacerbated Respiratory Disease: Sildenafil‑Associated Respiratory Symptoms
This report describes two patients with AERD who experienced nasal congestion, wheezing, chest tightness, flushing, and other respiratory symptoms shortly after taking sildenafil. Their reactions closely matched the symptoms they previously had with aspirin and similar medications. Although sildenafil is not a traditional trigger, evidence suggests it may influence pathways that are already sensitive in people with AERD. One patient also had a high‑inflammation urinary profile that may increase vulnerability to reactions. These findings suggest sildenafil may act as a nontraditional trigger in AERD and highlight the importance of caution and monitoring when starting this medication. Read more here.
